Gang member busted in King City

King City Police arrested a gang member after reports of domestic violence.

According to police, officers were called to the 400 block of North Vanderhurst Avenue on Wednesday for an incident of possible domestic violence. 911 callers got reports that a man was beating a woman on the sidewalk, but when officers arrived they didn’t find anyone.

During a search of the area, officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on Lynn Street.

The man ran from the officer, but was taken into custody after a short chase on foot.

Officers also recovered a .38 Caliber revolver and a box of ammunition as evidence.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Gustavo Antonio Vargas, is a known active gang member associate.

Vargas was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
