Watsonville man sentenced for DUI manslaughter

A 57-year-old man was sentenced on Friday to eight years in prison for DUI manslaughter, District Attorney Dean D. Flippo said.

Officers responded at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 11, 2016, to the scene of a car crash in the area of Salinas Road and Trafton Road in Watsonville.

Officials said Steven Michael Brunk was driving home when he hit and killed Alvin Earl Cruseturner, who was riding his bike.

The California Highway Patrol conducted a DUI test and found that Brunk’s blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit. Brunk admitted to having two beers but said he felt fine to drive.

Officials said Brunk will have to serve more than six years before he is eligible for parole.
