Home burglaries on the rise in Seaside
Seaside Police are warning residents about a spike in home burglaries.
Police said the locations of the burglaries are random throughout the city.
The burglars are entering the homes through unlocked doors or windows or through backyards. Doors at the back of the residences have also been kicked in and windows have been broken.
According to police, jewelry is a common item taken during most of the burglaries.
Police are urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 831-394-6811.
Call 9-1-1 if you believe a burglary may be in progress.
Police also want to remind residents to lock all doors and windows, even if you’re leaving for just a minute. Also, secure valuable items in a safe location, install sensor lighting around your residence and never leave a house key available for someone to find.
Police also suggest installing an audible alarm.
If you plan to be on vacation for an extended period of time, request a “close patrol” from the Seaside Police department and have a neighbor you trust pick up your mail, newspaper and trash.
