Bernie Sanders certified as write-in candidate

Bernie Sanders is among a list of write-in candidates for President whose names are certified for California’s November 8 ballot.

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla certified the list of write-in candidates for U.S. President and Vice President on October 28, 2016.

On Monday, Claudio Valenzuela, Monterey County’s registrar of voters, said Harold Krotzer has been certified a write-in candidate for Mayor of the City of Marina.

Valenzuela said that votes for write-in candidates take longer to count and will be counted during the post-election canvass period.

The results are not transmitted to the Secretary of State’s office until counties do their final certification of the vote. As a result, election night websites will not have results for write-in candidates.
