New text alert for Holman Highway 68 roundabout project

A new partnership between agencies in Monterey County is aimed at alerting commuters about the roundabout project on Holman Highway 68.

The Transportation Agency for Monterey County and the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services announced a new text message alert service on Tuesday . The system will allow people to receive traffic alerts and updates directly on their cell phone or electronic device.

TAMC said alerts will be sent out like the full closure of the southbound ramp off of Highway 1 to Holman Highway 68 over the Veterans Day weekend. The ramp will be closed starting on Thursday, November 10 at 7 p.m. to Monday, November 14 at 6 a.m.

Those driving in the area can expect to have delays of up to 20 minutes. Emergency vehicles will have full access and CHP will assist with this closure, according to TAMC.

Officials said this closure is necessary for crews to reconstruct the off-ramp and conform it to the new design of the future roundabout.

Those who are interested in receiving updates on the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout can send a text to 68roundabout at 888777.

Information on weekly project updates is also available on line and anyone interested in getting these emails can sign up at: www.tamcmonterey.org/programs/highway-projects/highway-68-roundabout/

This highway project is expected to relieve congestion at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 1. It is also expected to improve access to the Community Hospital, Pacific Grove, Monterey and Pebble Beach.

This project has been a partnership between the City of Monterey, City of Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach Company, Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District, County of Monterey, Caltrans, and the Transportation Agency for Monterey County.
