Aptos man attacks officer in Soquel, CHP says

An Aptos man on parole got into a fight with an officer Monday morning at a gas station on Soquel-San Jose Road in Soquel, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officers said 39-year-old Daniel Harpe was asleep in a car at Quik Stop around 6 a.m. CHP said when an officer tried to search the car, Harpe started throwing punches.

Harpe and the officer ended up in a scuffle on the ground, until a good Samaritan stopped to help the officer.

A second officer showed up and used a Taser to arrest Harpe. Officers said Harpe had a large amount of cash, methamphetamine and a gun.

CHP said the officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and Harpe was taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail.
