Traffic stop leads to arrest on felony weapons charges

It started with loud music coming from a vehicle near 7 th Avenue and Capitola Road in Live Oak. It ended with four felony arrests.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that agents with the county’s anti-crime team and gang task force arrested Adrian Abarca, 22, after initially stopping him on September 7, 2016 for playing loud music. Abarca is on felony probation out of Santa Clara County for illegal possession of a firearm and is subject to search terms.

Agents found a collapsible police-style baton in Abarca’s car. When task force agents searched Abarca’s home in the 5300 block of Soquel Drive, they found a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle, ammunition and a high capacity pistol magazine, all of which Abarca is prohibited from possessing.

Abarca was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on four felony charges related to the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and weapons.
