Santa Cruz man dies after crashing into tree

A Santa Cruz man was killed during a crash early Wednesday morning on Empire Grade Road near Alba Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to California Highway Patrol.

The victim was 28-years-old and his identity hasn’t been released yet. Officers said the victim lost control of his Chevy Blazer and hit a tree.

CHP said a Good Samaritan stopped to help and called 911. Investigators said the victim died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and officers said its not clear if drugs or alcohol were factors.
