Shooting suspect arrested, second suspect on the loose in Salinas

Salinas police have arrested one man for a shooting Monday night, but a second suspect is still on the run.

The first suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Jairo Zamora. He was found to be under the influence and was over twice the legal limit.

Salinas police said a 25-year-old man was shot on El Dorado Drive before 7 p.m.

Officers saw the suspects’ silver Nissan pickup leaving the area and a high-speed pursuit ensued. Zamora was the driver. During the chase, the other suspect jumped out of the car. Officers followed the suspect on foot in the area of Elkington Avenue, but the suspect managed to escape.

Officers searched a nearby area and recovered the suspect’s gun on a rooftop.

Additional officers were able stop Zamora on Manchester Drive and arrested him. Zamora faces attempted murder, resisting arrest, DUI and other charges.

The victim was hurt, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
