New Soberanes Fire evacuation shelter set up in Carmel

Now the size of San Francisco, the Soberanes Fire continues to grow on the Central Coast. On Sunday more neighborhoods were forced to evacuate. The fire is now more than 40-thousand acres.

“More people are coming in due to the fact that there are not a lot of hotels or space. This is a fluid situation so we are trying to keep the shelters open as people need them. And were here if people want to come in and have lunch, dinner, or if they just need a place to come have a break. The Red Cross shelter is open to everyone,” said Shelter Manager Romina Cervantes.

A new Red Cross shelter has been set up at All Saints’ Day School on Carmel Valley Road.
