Evacuated animals returning home after fire

Over 100 pets evacuated from the Soberanes Fire have been returned to their owners, according to the Monterey County SPCA.

Since the fire began July 22, the SPCA’s shelter, barn and wildlife center have been home to 226 evacuated pets, along with dozens of horses, goats and chickens rescued by the SPCA’s disaster response team.

As evacuation orders for Palo Colorado Canyon, Tassajara, and Cachagua have been lifted, residents and their pets are starting to return home. On Friday, the SPCA announced that 124 of the evacuated pets have been returned to their owners and 102 are still being sheltered.

The SPCA says its emergency evacuation services are provided free of charge thanks to donations from the community.
