Thieves break into six cars parked on Highway 1

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of vehicle break-ins along Highway 1 between Carmel and Big Sur. Six separate incidents were reported on Tuesday. All of them happened near scenic spots on the highway.

Deputies said drivers who leave their cars to hike or take pictures of the coastline should remember to lock their cars and never leave valuables inside.
