Women ropers take over Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Salinas

The second annual California’s Richest Breakaway Roping event kicked off with more than 50 women competing.

Whoever roped the most calves in the shortest amount of time won.

Event coordinators said all female roping events are growing across the country.

“It’s fascinating I think to fans to have women go out there and rope just as tough as most guys and men,” California’s Richest Breakaway Roping producer Danielle Craig said.

The winner of the event took home $2,000, a saddle and buckle.
