Santa Cruz homeless man accused of arson and vandalism at local business

A homeless man is facing multiple charges after police said he intentionally smashed windows at a Santa Cruz business and set the building on fire with fireworks Wednesday night.

Police said Jorawar Singh, 29, entered a business in the 800 block of River Street around 7:00 p.m. and started smashing windows with a baseball bat. Officers tried to coax Singh out of the building using a load speaker but police said stayed inside. Moments later officers said Singh set off fireworks inside the building and ran out the back door.

Police believe Singh did about $100,000 in damage to the business. He was arrested and charged with arson, burglary, vandalism and resisting arrest.
