2016 Forbes AgTech Summit proves to be good for business

Downtown Salinas is busier than normal.

“You know it’s not just the people that are involved, but also the people that come down here wanting to know what the big white tents are all about,” said Farm Fresh Deli & Cafe owner Jeff Lamb.

Lamb said he’s excited to have the 2016 AgTech Summit in Salinas for the second year in a row.

“Definitely a good thing for Salinas. We need this. It gives some exposure to what we do here in the Valley, and shines some light on Salinas in a positive way,” said Lamb.

The two-day summit is expected to bring about 750 people to the heart of Salinas.

“We’re looking forward to all the business these people are going to bring, and we’re happy to have them over here. We have a beautiful courtyard and the stuff that would hit the spot during lunch. We’re really looking forward to them coming by,” said Ticino Supervisor Tim Matalka.

The event is not only creating foot traffic, but also boosting business in other ways.

“We’re one of the food vendors that’s supplying food for the event. It’s good to bring the whole community and get everyone involved,” said Lamb.

The summit has closed a section of Main Street, but for restaurants and retail stores, it’s business as usual.

“We’re open throughout the whole week,” said Sang’s Caf Waitress Sara Sang. “As far as parking goes, it can be tough, so you can go behind the museum and into the garage. And then we also have a back door entrance,”.
