Cannery Row businessman named to national tourism board

Ted Balestreri, Chairman and CEO of Cannery Row Company, was appointed June 30 to the Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB), a group that advises the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on matters related to the travel and tourism industry in the United States, according to a company press release.

“The TTAB plays an important role in developing long term strategies and policies to stimulate growth in the industry. I am excited for this opportunity and look forward to engaging in efforts to increase travel and tourism to the United States,” said Balestreri.

Previously, Balestreri served as Commissioner of the California Travel and Tourism Commission from 1985-2007. In 1995, he was also appointed California delegate to the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism.

Balestreri was heavily involved in the revitalization and development of Cannery Row in Monterey.Balestreri is the general managing partner of Foursome Development Company, the parent company of numerous Cannery row commercial properties, including luxury hotels, restaurants, and retail stores.

According to the State of Calfiornia, travel and tourism is the second largest industry in Monterey County and attracts more than 8 million visitors per year.
