Fire causes heavy damage to Capitola office building

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a 1-story office building at 1240 41 st Avenue in Capitola Sunday night.

Crews from agencies throughout Santa Cruz County responded to the blaze shortly before 7:00 p.m. and found a storage room and the building’s attic fully engulfed. Firefighters say portions of the building’s roof collapsed as crews worked to vent the fire.

Four engines, a ladder truck, and 21 firefighters battled the blaze, which took about 90 minutes to contain.
