Santa Cruz Police sieze 70 lbs. of illegal fireworks

During the three-day July 4 th holiday weekend, Santa Cruz Police responded to hundreds of reports of illegal fireworks possession and alcohol-related violations. When it was over, officers had arrested 76 people and seized about 70 lbs. of fireworks.

A police report issued Tuesday showed both Eastside and Westside neighborhoods were impacted by incidents of fireworks violations. There was a total of 214 fireworks calls over the weekend with 144 fireworks calls coming on July 4th.

Police issued 43 triple fine citations, mostly for fireworks and alcohol-related offenses.
