Black Ball Ban boards at two popular Santa Cruz beaches

A bright yellow flag with a large black ball is flying at lifeguard stations at two popular beaches in Santa Cruz this 4th of July weekend.

The Black Ball Flag warns beach goers at Twin Lakes and Seabright beach that no hard objects like surfboards and skimboards are allowed in the water.

The ban is intended to keep people from getting hit with hard objects.

The no-no list also includes paddleboards, surf kayaks or any object made of wood or other hard surfaces, including fiberglass.

Soft boogie boards get a free pass this holiday weekend.
