Hoping for a big win supporters gathered at Fandango’s restaurant after the polls closed Tuesday.

“Everybody is really celebrating. Thank you to the citizens of Pacific Grove for such a wonderful response to this opportunity of rezoning the American Tin Cannery,” said David Armanasco, a representative for the developer.

According to the Monterey County Elections Office, 1,719 people have voted yes for Measure X with more than 61 percent of the vote. 1,074 people voted no for more than 38 percent of the vote.

Measure X would change the zoning for the American Tin Cannery for Project Bella bringing big development to the area.

Project Bella would be a five star hotel located in Pacific Grove with suites and shops.

But not everyone is excited about Measure X. Many community members said they don’t know much about the project; such as what it will look like, the traffic impacts, water use and jobs.

“The PG community really wants to have a lot of information about development projects that are coming to their town. They want to be very involved with the process and unfortunately in this project they haven’t had all the information,” said Sarah McDermott with Unite Here Local 483.
