Wounded heroes will hit the waves in Santa Cruz

Former wounded servicemembers will get on a surfboard and hit the waves in Santa Cruz.

“Operation Surf is a program developed to help our wounded servicemen and women change their outlook on life,” said Amazing Surf Adventures Founder Van Curaza.

Van Curaza is the founder of the non-profit Amazing Surf Adventures, a program that uses surfing as a therapeutic tool up and down the California Coast.

“Its primary purpose is to help people change the perception of their challenges,” said Curaza.

14 men and women will take part in this year’s event.

“At the end of the week they’re surpassing goals they never thought,” said Curaza.

The former service members will have some of the best surf instructors the Central Coast has to offer.

“There eyes and face light up. That’s a gift you can’t put a price tag on. And to be able to share the ocean to do that is amazing,” said Curaza.
