Volunteers search for Morgan Hill teen who disappeared 4 years ago
Split up into three teams volunteers searched high and low for Sierra LaMar.
“Maybe today be the day, you never know,” said Avelino Perez, family friend and volunteer.
LaMar went missing March 16th 2012.
She was last seen leaving her Morgan Hill home in the morning, she missed her bus for school.
There have been more than 1,100 recorded searches for her since then.
“I hope that we can continue to keep this alive until we bring Sierra home because she’s everybody’s daughter,” said Doug Tollis, team leader of Team Sierra LaMar.
In the Uvas reservoir area volunteers dug through dirt and trees, looking for anything unusual.
“That might indicate that someone was there,” said volunteer Curt Konno.
Team Sierra LaMar said they’ve been wanting to search there for a while but couldn’t because it’s private property, landowners have now given permission.
They tell KION Antolin Garcia-Torres, charged with her kidnapping and murder, was seen there multiple times.
“This is an area that his mom said he came out and fished quite often,” said Tollis. “He was spotted out here a couple of times after the fact of the disappearance of Sierra.”
Tores is headed for trial in April, which Team Sierra members believe will help with the search.
“The evidence that’s gonna come out, the information that’s gonna come out, its gonna guide us in the direction that we really need to go,” said Tollis. “For all I know we’ve probably stepped over her or walked by her many times.”
Volunteers said LaMar’s family is going strong but it’s been tough.
The searches for her are helping them to heal and the community to heal.
Team Sierra LaMar said they will scout more properties to search.
