Threat from former teacher prompts school lockdown in Salinas

Gavilan View Middle School will be on a precautionary lockdown until 3:10 p.m. Thursday.

School officials said the middle school received a threat from a former male teacher who worked for the Santa Rita Union Elementary School District a year and a half ago.

Once the school received the threat, educators said they notified the Salinas Police Department and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement is currently investigating.

The teacher was never physically on campus, according to the school.

The school says children are safe, but some parents have picked up their kids. Educators say parents have every right to pick up their kids if they want to.
