Greenfield police officer recovering after being attacked

Three people are in custody after an attack on a Greenfield Police Officer.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said a man attacked a police officer during a traffic stop arrest on Sunday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy confronted Natividad Chavez before the incident. Chavez was on a bicycle in the area of Elm Avenue and 12 th street in Greenfield. The Sheriff’s Office said Chavez ran from the deputy and more officers were called for backup.

They later caught Chavez at his home and arrested him. Family members of Chavez then came out and one of them jumped on the back of a Greenfield police officer.

The officer fell to the ground and was hurt, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Natividad Chavez was arrested for delaying and obstructing a peace officer and battery on a peace officer with serious injury. Rosalva Chavez was arrested for similar charges as well as a probation violation and a teenager was also taken into custody for similar charges.
