Central Coast communities dealing with flooding from El Nio generated storms

From flooded roads in Prunedale to a collision with a tree in Santa Cruz, the wet weather caused some trouble on the central coast on Sunday.

“A lot of rain, a lot of inclement weather,” said California High Patrol Officer Jeff Lloyd. “Vehicles are running off the road.”

One driver went around a curve too fast, lost control and miraculously landed in between a few trees in Santa Cruz, according to CHP.

No one was hurt.

“The speed limit is posted for a reason please follow it,” said Lloyd.

CHP responded to weather related calls all day Sunday and said it has a lot to do with how slick the roads are.

“All the oils are coming out of the road way and when all the puddles are on the roadways causing traction issues please slowdown,” said Lloyd.

The wet weather continued to cause more problems in Salinas.

Francisco Rodriguez lives off of San Juan Grade Rd where nearly all of his front yard was flooded.

The owner of the house is working to pump out the water, but more storms are making it difficult, according to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said he isn’t too upset about the flooding because he knows California needs the rain.

“That is okay with me,” said Rodriguez. “Not going to hurt… you know?”
