Farmers making their way back to Salinas

It’s only expected to get busier as more farmers are coming back to the Central Coast. Many farmers go to Yuma, Arizona during winter vegetable season, they are now slowly making their way back to Salinas. For those already here, they’re ramping up for Ten months of prime planting weather, despite the unusual rain.

“When it gets too flooded they get in there and pump the fields, pump the water out. Because the crops don’t want to get saturated that badly. Right now we have broccoli, cauliflower and some lettuce. But most of the lettuce is down in Gonzalez, south,” said Farmer Jack Vezzolo.

The rain has delayed the return of some farmers from Arizona.
