Did the Pro-Am and Super Bowl bring business to Carmel?

Following Super Bowl 50 and the 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Carmel Chamber of Commerce reached out to businesses to see if they benefited.

While there were high hopes for economic boosts from both sporting events, only 20% of those surveyed said they benefited from the Super Bowl.

Taking a close look at survey responses, most of the comments concluded it hurt business with people heading north for the game. Some suggested offering Super Bowl coupons to encourage people to stay/shop in Carmel should there be another game or big event nearby.

As for the Pro-Am, the majority of people said business was about the same as last year – 59% to be exact. About 25% said it was better than last year.

Overall, the answers concluded that Pebble Beach does a good job at keeping people and money there. Several people said having the Pro-Am on Valentine’s Day weekend is tough since so many choose to go to Pebble instead of Carmel.
