Man arrested in Salinas stabbing, high-speed chase Thursday night

A suspect accused of stabbing a man in his car in East Salinas and leading officers on a high-speed chase into San Benito County Thursday night is now behind bars, according to police.

Salinas Police said Isidro Diaz, 24, walked towards the victim who was sitting in his parked car on North Madeira Avenue at about 11 p.m.

Police said Diaz stabbed a 27-year-old Hispanic man in the lower body and took off in the victim’s car.

A California Highway Patrol officer happened to be driving behind the suspect on Highway 101 and tried to stop him but police said Diaz sped off. A high-speed pursuit ensued and ended in San Benito County after Diaz crashed.

Diaz was booked into Monterey County Jail.

Salinas Police said the victim was taken to Natividad Medical Center where he was treated for a stab wound.
