Monterey woman heads to jail for felony financial elder abuse and animal abuse

A Monterey woman will spend 180 days in the Monterey County Jail for felony financial elder abuse.

Ilagene Quaglia, 62, was a long-time caretaker of an 82-year-old Pacific Grove resident. She also oversaw the 82-year-old’s rental properties.

Over the course of three years, Quaglia financially abused the victim. A tenant of the victim eventually noticed the abuse and reported it to police. That abuse involved skimming rental checks, writing checks to herself for unauthorized matters, and over charging on various items and services she claimed on rental properties.

Quaglia was already on misdemeanor probation for a 2013 animal abuse conviction. With this latest conviction, she will spend a total of 240 days in jail.
