Five Leap Year babies born at Salinas Valley Memorial

The Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System welcomed five babies on Leap Day.

The first baby born on Monday came into the world at 2:17 a.m. and the last Leap Day baby was born at 10:22 p.m.

“All of our babies are special,” said Dani Robison, RN, Labor and Delivery Clinical Manager at Salinas Valley Memorial. “It is extra exciting though when we have babies born on unique days. Unlike New Year’s and other holidays, leap day only comes around once every four years.”

Four boys were born, and one girl. The little boy pictured is Austin, born to Gaby and Dale Flores. Austin weighs 6 pounds, 12 ounces. He came a little early, at 37 weeks.

“He’s absolutely beautiful,” Gaby said. “We’re not sure what day we will celebrate every year, but we’re leaning toward February 28th just so the month stays the same.”

By the time these babies celebrate their next actual birthday, it will be 2020.
