Thousands turn out for Super Bowl 50 Media Night

Super Bowl Media Night has become a major spectacle for football fans. Not only do they get to see some of their favorite players in person, they watch the media circus that surrounds it.

It’s as exciting as a football game, but it’s not on the gridiron, it’s inside San Jose’s SAP Center. On Monday night, many in the news industry got a chance to speak to the teams playing in Super Bowl 50. Over the years, it has gained ground.

“When I participated in Super Bowl 15 there was about 315 press members there,” Herm Edwards, ESPN analyst said. “There’s probably over 4,000 here so it’s quite a spectacle.”

There were even more people in the stands, including Aram Pittman, who took in the media circus while watching live network broadcasts.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Pittman said. “I don’t know how everyone is down there, knowing what to do with all this noise all around.”

From dodging tackles to tough questions, one former Panthers cheerleader is pretty sure her team will score.

“Seeing what kind of questions the media will ask them and how they respond,” Christie Kirkland said.” I think that our players will do a good job of handling it well.”

Reporters have a tough job main sure they ask questions that will evoke emotion, or at the very least, be memorable.

“I wanted to come and show my pride and their hashtag is “United in Orange” and I bought his orange suit and they’re wearing white on Sunday. I had one chance to get this right and I screwed it up,” said “Nil-Nil,” a member of the Denver media.

Or the reporter that asked Denver’s defensive tackle Derek Wolfe about death.

“How would I want to die? In a hand-to-hand combat,” Wolfe said.
