Dispatcher awarded for his work in Monterey County

A dispatcher for Monterey County Emergency Communications was honored in Washington, D.C. Monday for his work.

Juan Rodriguez was selected from applicants around the U.S. and Canada to win Telecommunicator of the Year.

Rodriguez has been a dispatcher for ten years. Peers said he remains calm and helpful during chaotic situations.

Rodriguez was honored for the way he handled an active shooter situation in March 2014 where he switched between English and Spanish while making quick decisions.
