UPDATE: King City police arrest 15-year-old accused of deadly shooting

UPDATE 8/17/15: King City police said investigators have made an arrest in the killing of a 29-year-old man last month.

On Monday, officers said a 15-year-old boy was arrested and is accused of killing Michael Anthony Benavides, 29, after he was shot several times in the 700 block of South First St. on July 1. Officers said Benavides was in his car at the time of the shooting and died at the scene.

Investigators said the boy will be charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and gang enhancements.

UPDATE 7/2/15 12:02 p.m.: King City police are investigating a homicide case where a 29-year-old man was killed during a shooting Wednesday night.

Officers said it happened in the 700 block of S. First St. just before 9:30 p.m. Soledad Police, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol also assisted at the scene.

Police said they don’t have a suspect or car description.

Police said the victim is a known gang member. However NewsChannel 5 spoke with a family member Thursday, who disputes that claim.

That family member also said the victim was shot nine times in 2013 during an incident on Ellis St.

PREVIOUS STORY: King City police are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting Wednesday night.

Police said just before 9:30 p.m., a known gang member was shot multiple times outside a trailer home on the 700 block of South First Street.

The victim has not been identified and there is no suspect information at this time.
