UPDATE: Deputies identify body found in Panoche Valley

UPDATE 8/17/15: The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 29-year-old Eleazar Roman Cruz of Oceanside, CA. The investigation is ongoing.

A 29-year-old Hispanic man was found dead along the side of the road Thursday, according to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said his body was dumped on the side of the road and was covered up by cardboard in the 6800 block of Panoche Rd.

Deputies said he was likely shot Wednesday and his body was dumped later at some point.

A contracted utility worker discovered the man and reported it. Investigators said they don’t have any identification on the man, nor any suspect information.

Deputies don’t think he was killed at that location.
