Car week wraps up on the Monterey Peninsula

Car week is wrapping up along the Monterey Peninsula but it’s not just the people going home as NewsChannel 5 spoke to Drew Alcazar, the CEO of Russo & Steele about how the cars clear out as well.

“It’s a record setting weekend here in Monterey, California with all of the different car events going on.It’s amazing all of these cars magically appear but nobody ever thinks they’ve got to also magically disappear also,” said Alcazar.

Auctions ended Saturday, but Sunday was spent cleaning up with more than 250 cars prepped to ship out to their new owners. Alcazar said getting the expensive cars to where they need to go depends on auto transport company,”Reliable Carriers.”

“They’re a critical element to our process,” said Alcazar. The trucks carry millions of dollars worth of cars in each haul. “we entrust because they actually assist us to getting the cars to clients while funding is still going on from the buyers,” said Alcazar.

Mike White has been driving for Reliable Carriers for six years and said the cars are secure in his care. Truck drivers use tie straps aroundthe tires to hold the car from moving.”We have to be a little more careful, we have to watch the public a little bit more. We have a great batting record with reliable carriers,” said White.

The Reliable Carriers truckers saidthey can fit about six exotic cars in each of the big rigs. The cost to transport the car depends on the distance. White said from Monterey to Maine the cost could be about $3,000. There are about 140 Reliable Carrier trucks on site to clear the cars out of the parking lot.

“We’ll be within three days, we’ll be totally out and the babies will be on their way home to the new owners,” said White.

About 1,200 cars will be moving out of Monterey County within the next five days. The next big event for Russo & Steele will be in Scottsdale, Arizona in January where more than 850 cars will be showcased.
