Machete-wielding man attempts to steal car in Watsonville

Watsonville police arrested a 46-year-old man for an assault involving a machete Saturday morning.

Just after 8:00 a.m., Police said Anthony Urango attempted to steal a vehicle that was parked near Hushbeck Avenue at McKenzie Avenue.

After a brief struggle between Urango and the vehicle’s owner, police said Urango threatened to kill the victim and swung the machete at least once.

Urango was booked into the Santa Cruz county jail and faces several charges including assault with a deadly weapon.
