Police: Gang members confront and kill man in Salinas

One person was killed Friday night in Salinas in an apparent gang-related shooting, according to Salinas Police.

The incident happened around 10:00 p.m. on the 100 block of Sherwood Drive. Three people were confronted by several gang members who “challenged the victims about their gang affiliation,” police said.

One of the victim’s attempted to drive away to avoid confrontation. That’s when the suspects fired at the vehicle striking and killing, Eliot Cerna Guererro, 22, police said. Family members took Guererro to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Police said they are investigating the shooting as gang-related but added the shooting victim had no apparent gang ties.
