Pierre the Puppy finds forever home in Seaside

Eight-week-old Pierre has been in the local spotlight for several weeks now. A woman originally claimed to have found the Chihuahua abandoned in Oldtown Salinas, then it was revealed this week that it was a hoax. What’s not a joke is that he now has a forever home. He was adopted by a Seaside family that lost their pet in the Monterey Dog Spa Fire.

One month since that deadly pet spa fire killed 15 dogs, Rose Blessing and her family still cry over her five-month-old Cocker Spaniel, Rocky. He was kenneled while the family and friends went to the Bay Area.

“We weren’t even gone for an entire day when we heard about it unfortuantely,” Jeremy Bussell said. “And we heard about it on the way back that evening so it was a tough drive home from San Francisco.”

On Friday, the family took a big step moving forward. They adopted Pierre, a puppy who’s gotten a lot of attention lately. In fact, that’s how the family heard about him — on the news. After debating whether to get another dog, they decided to meet Pierre at the SPCA, and it was love at first sight.

“He’s just a really happy puppy,” Alexis Godard said. “Especially for being so young. He’s really playful and cheerful and has so much energy. He’s really loving and kind.”

From heartbreak to hearts filed, the family is ready to open their arms to this tiny puppy with a big personality.

“I think the loss of Rocky is still really fresh and I think we’re all going through a hard time and Pierre is going to help bring back some of the light into our lives,” Jenasea Blessing said.

The family says the puppy will keep the name Pierre, and in the meantime they plan to play with him, cuddle and take him to the dog park. And if you’re looking for your own happy tale —

“Please keep in mind there are hundreds of animals still looking for homes at the SPCA or your local shelters,” Beth Brookhouser with the SPCA for Monterey County said. “There are so many animals whose lives could change by walking through the shelter doors and giving them a chance.”
