UPDATE: Deputies ID man on mower killed by plane at Frazier Lake Airpark

UPDATE 8/7/15: The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said the man who was killed in a crash at Frazier Lake Airpark Thursday was Douglas Ralph Jackson, 75, of Hollister.

UPDATE 8/6/15 1:19 p.m.: Deputies confirm a 75-year-old man from Hollister was killed when a plane collided with the lawn mower on the runway at Frazier Lake Airpark Thursday morning. The man has not been identified yet.

Deputies said the co-pilot of the plane was airlifted to the hospital and the pilot is expected to be OK. The pilot reported landing the small plane before crashing into the mower. Deputies said the pilot also explained the mower wasn’t in his line of sight because of the high angle the plane and thought the runway was clear.

Deputies also said the plane was traveling at a high rate of speed on the runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash and a recovery team has been sent out from Sacramento.
