Argument over custody of dog sparks domestic disturbance in Aptos

UPDATE 8/7/15: Two people were arrested after a domestic disturbance in Aptos, following an argument earlier in the day about a dog, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a gunshot was reported in the 400 block of Monterey Ave. around 4:22 p.m. Doran Maxwell, 45, and Bianca Whitfield, 30, were both arrested during the investigation which sparked a shelter-in-place for the surrounding neighborhood.

Deputies said Maxwell and Whitfield were ordered to exit the residence and they complied peacefully.

The Sheriff’s Office said the argument stemmed from a determination during an animal services hearing, where a dog was to be surrendered later in the month. Animal services later took custody of the dog.

UPDATE 8/6/15 11:14 p.m.: Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident on the 400 block of Monterey Road in Aptos.

A man and woman were both taken into custody. The man was arrested for firing a gun and the woman was arrested for having a gun illegally.

UPDATE 8/6/15 5:14 p.m.: Deputies are responding to a domestic violence incident on Monterey Dr. in Aptos, according to dispatchers.

A shelter-in-place is being ordered for residents who live near the area.
