Car crashes into a home and hits gas line in Monterey

PG&E crews are still on scene fixing a gas line in Monterey after a car plowed in to the side of an apartment building.

The car crashed into an apartment complex on Eddie Burns Lane at about 10:30a.m, near Watson and Franklin Streets.

Nearby residents were evacuated because of the danger of the gas leak.

Monterey Fire crews say the driver in her 50’s told them she hit the gas instead of the brake while trying to turn into the garage.

She was not injured.

Neighbors were let back in the building and their homes, expect for those living above the part of the building that was damaged. They won’t be let back in until a city engineer determines the structural integrity of the building.

PG&E is still working to fix the line.
