Suspect arrested after Tuesday night stabbing in Gilroy, police say

Gilroy police are investigating a stabbing Tuesday night in the 300 block of Mantelli Dr.

Police said suspect, Jose Luis Lara Jr., 24, was physically fighting with a 21-year-old man when officers arrived on scene. Officers said the 21-year-old victim had been stabbed in the face.

The victim was taken to the hospital and was released that evening with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Lara was also taken to the hospital and was later taken to the Santa Clara County Jail. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Police said Lara and the victim appear to be acquaintances and the incident does not appear to be gang-related.
