UPDATE: Crews battle fire at North Salinas home

UPDATE 5/26/2015 4:22 p.m.: Salinas firefighters said one person was inside a home that caught on fire Tuesday afternoon near Middlefield Road and Herbert Road.

Crews said the woman inside at the time reported smelling smoke in the family room, where she found the couch on fire.

Crews said the first engine found half of the house full engulfed in flames and it took about 20 minutes to get it under control.

No injuries were reported but the house was significantly damaged.

Crews said both homeowners are displaced and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY: Crews are working to put out a house fire in North Salinas Tuesday afternoon near Middlefield Road and Lagunita Road.

Firefighters said one person was inside at the time and was able to evacuate.

No injuries were reported.
