South Salinas homeowner robbed, police say

An elderly woman was robbed at her home in South Salinas early Friday morning, police said.

Officers said the woman heard a loud noise coming from her backyard where she confronted the suspect. He’s described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5 foot 2 inches tall with a thin build, straight black hair, wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants and white cotton gloves.

Officers said the man had a knife and ordered the woman to the upstairs portion of her home. That’s when the man reportedly started opening cabinets, drawers and demanded money from the woman.

Officers said the man got away, jumping over several fences in the neighborhood and was seen running northbound on Primavera Street toward Primavera Way.

During a search by police, officers said they discovered two unlocked cars in the 1300 block of Byron Drive had items stolen from inside.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call police.
