Gilroy community mourns four killed in Gilroy crash

A memorial of flowers, signs and candles now covers the scenewhere four people were killed in a suspected DUI accident Tuesday.The driver survived, but four were killed, including three teenage girls.

“In the past four days we’ve lost four amazing girls in our community,” said close friend Angelique Lucero.

Police have identified the girls killed in Tuesday’s crash as Sara Williams, Yolanda Jimenez, and Yesenia Mendoza, all 18-years-old.

Joseph Vasquez Flemate, 24, of Gilroy, was also killed in the crash.

On Saturday, Natalia Salcido, 15, was killed in a crash on Miller Avenue. The community just had a candlelight vigil at Christopher High School.

“It’s just really hard. It’s like no words can explain,” said Ada Gailui.

Gailui and Lucero knew the three girls killed Tuesday. They were especially close with Williams.

“She had a crazy kind of ‘I don’t really care what you think about me’ attitude and I thought that was amazing,” said Lucero. “And she lived in the moment, definitely, all three of them,” added Gailui.

Now friends and family are saying goodbye. They are also issuing a reminder about the danger of drinking and driving.

“People can learn from this accident. It’s a nightmare,” said Gailui.
