UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Echo Valley School after bomb threat, deputies say

UPDATE 11:17 a.m.: A man was arrested near Echo Valley School Wednesday afternoon, after making threats by saying “there’s gonna be problems at school today,” according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident prompted a lockdown at Echo Valley School, which has now been lifted.

Bomb squad investigators were called out to the scene where the man, allegedly under the influence of drugs, claimed he had explosives in a bag near the school.

Investigators said the bag was detonated as a precaution. The Sheriff’s Office said the man was taken to the hospital and will be booked into the Monterey County Jail later.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Monterey County Bomb Squad said its responding to a report of a suspicious package near Echo Valley School in Prunedale.

Echo Valley School is on lockdown because of the investigation, deputies said.
