15-year-old killed in weekend accident in Gilroy

Gilroy Police are investigating how a car went off the road and hit a tree, killing one teen Saturday night.

Officers responded just before 10:00p.m. to the 6300 block of Miller Avenue and found a car had gone off Miller Avenue and hit a tree. The driver and back passenger, both teenagers, were able to get out of the car, but the front seat passenger was still inside and suffering from major injuries.

Emergency crews took 15-year-old Natalia Salcido to a Bay Area trauma center where she later died.

Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team investigated through the night and into the morning hours to find a cause for the accident.

Police say drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time.

There is a memorial Facebook page for the teen who was a student at Christopher High School: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Prayers-Love-Support-for-beloved-Natalia-Salcido/384986611626211?notif_t=fbpage_fan_invite

There is a candlelight vigil planned to remember Salcido on Monday at 8:30 pm on the Christopher High football field.

There is a GoFundMe site that has been created as well: http://www.gofundme.com/u7n9z8
