Cupcake crook robs Monterey sweets shops, police say

A man, armed with a black pistol, robbed a cupcake shop at Del Monte Shopping Center on Wednesday afternoon, Monterey police said. Officers said this case may be tied to a similar case last month at Room for Dessert on Franklin Street.

Police said the man entered Kara’s Cupcakes, at 2:33 p.m., demanded cash from the clerk and ran out with cash.

Officers said the man is described as African-American, 55 to 65 yeas old, thin build, unshaven facial hair and having poor hygiene.

Police said the man was wearing a dark knit or fleece hat with a white band, a dark blue windbreaker with white athletic stripes, green plaid shorts, black socks and white athletic styles shoes. The man also had an orange style courier satchel, police said.

Investigators believe there are also other recent cases in the area where a suspect car was seen – an older four-door full-size sedan (Buick or Cadillac) in poor condition.

No one was hurt in Wednesday’s incident, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 831-646-3814 or the confidential tip line at 831-646-3840.
