Alleged Mexican mass murderer from Watsonville deported

An alleged mass murderer caught in Santa Cruz County last year is now in the hands of Mexican law enforcement officials.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Heriberto Galicia, 62, also known as Ramiro Lopez, was deported to Mexico Wednesday.

Investigators said Galicia was behind seven murders and two attempted murders in Mexico. Six of his alleged victims were children. He was eventually tracked down in Watsonville last November.

After months in custody, he was handed over to Mexican authorities.
