One dead after triple shooting at a restaurant in Greenfield

UPDATE: Greenfield police said a shooting happened at El Michoacano Restaurant on El Camino Real on Saturday. When officers arrived they said they found two men and a woman had been shot.

All three were taken to a nearby hospital but police said Rufino Suarez, 21, died. Investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related. Police Sgt. Mike Rice broke down some of the problems they see in the city.

“We do have some gang violence some Nortenos, Surenos going on with King City and Greenfield and so that can be where a lot of the violence does come from,” Rice said.

Police said several people were inside the restaurant at the time but no one else was hurt. Rice said this was unusual because of where it happened.

“Casual restaurant, one of the very popular in Greenfield. Typically you’d feel safe there, this is very abnormal thing for the city of Greenfield where crime at this magnitude happens at a local business,” Rice said.

Rice added they’re looking through surveillance footage and already have multiple leads. They’re urge anyone with information to call Greenfield police.

Two of the victims suffered non-life threatening injuries but Rufino Suarez, 21, died at the hospital, police said.

The police department is investigating the shooting as gang-related.
